Though I at first found my Self up to my boot tops with the "frosting" on the Winter firs... I rethought the first impression I wanted... after "conferencing" with my trusty sidekick Deb. She has a great eye and often gives "Me" a perspective that sheds light on my predicament at hand. Usually I can work out my own problems... but this was one of those occasions when I required input.
Tomorrow... will be spent in "pushing and pulling" values in a few areas... but for the most part what you see in the jpeg posted is the final stage of the project. The canvases are gallery wraps... one and three-quarter inch stretcher bars. I paint around these completely to match the colour and the perspective at the edges all the way round. I'll get at that over the weekend to make my Wednesday delivery date deadline at AyrSpace.
Hope that everyone enjoyed the project as much as "I". I learned a great deal from the process... and would repeat such an undertaking again... after a rest!HAHA!!!
Good Painting to ALL
This came out so very beautifully, Bruce. I love that the seasonal transitions aren't so in your face but lend to a quite cohesive piece in the end.
ReplyDeleteThank "You" Sherry!... Makes "Me" feel pleased that your own feelings match my own.
ReplyDeleteThe piece really does move naturally I think... and more obviously so... when one is in front of the "real McCoy'.
I'm afraid that the digital "reality" loses many of the slight nuances such as the first appearance of flurries and the depth and translucence of shadows. It does give you the idea however.
Thanks for dropping by... and for your encouragement throughout the entire project... "I" much appreciate that!
I'm overwhelmed at such a monumental project! Am loving seeing the step by step process and the gradual progression from one season to the other. Beautiful work!
ReplyDeleteHi Ann!... Thanks for stopping by and commenting on the project!
ReplyDeleteThe good feelings of accomplishment and new insights gained by "pushing the envelope"... artistically are monumental gifts back to "Me".
I feel a new direction for my work. More careful planning can go hand-in-hand with a loose... painterly technique and brushwork... to create something beyond things from the past. Exciting!
Good Painting!
Warmest regards,
Bruce
The transition is beautifully and clearly seen from Spring to Winter Bruce!! This is a very difficult piece in my eyes but you have accomplished it! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting... and for your keen and appreciated observations Hilda!
ReplyDeleteI am obviously very pleased with the outcome of the projest as well. I learned a great deal from the undertaking and it really has me pumped up... and ready to go for my plein air workshop presentation coming up this next weekend at Bark Lake. Outdoors... en plein air doin' what "I" love to do! YAHOO!
Good Painting!
Warmest regards,
Bruce
Amazing undertaking, Bruce ... A real wonderful "almost" outcome, too.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I often don't want it sometimes another eye really DOES help see things. I also find that looking at the jpg helps too. (Now why would looking at a photo of your work seem to help you see it better than looking at the actual work...??) Who knows.. but it does.
I'll bet you'll be really thrilled to deliver this baby!! CONGRATS!
Hi there Marian!... We all have our little "safety net" devices to overcome our some time fear of flying. Whatever works!
ReplyDeleteI am indeed the proud "Daddy" of this "Baby".... a safe delivery... after years of labour! HAHA!!!Thanks for your visits and encouragement Marian!
Good Painting!
Warmest regards,
Bruce
It's Beautiful Bruce, Oh yes it was so very enjoyable watching the progress.
ReplyDeleteYou must be so very proud of this amazing work. I thank you so much for sharing.
All the best to you
Joan
Hi there Joan!... Thanks for tuning back in for the closing act and for following the project all the way along from its beginning!
ReplyDelete"I" am proud of the piece... and for that matter... I am proud of all of the twenty odd larger pieces that will form the basis for my solo show "Painting In All Seasons."
I intend to post all of the pieces used in the show in this month's change on my website www.thepaintboxgallery.ca so that everyone can have a peek!
Good Painting!
Warmest regards,
Bruce
Amazing result on the grand scale, Dad! Hope you are resting your arms! You should be very proud!
ReplyDeleteLove Allie xoxo
Hello There Dr Jemima!.... Thanks for the great "Grade"! Finally... someone at a university level appreciates my effort!HAHA!!!
ReplyDeleteSeriously... "I" am very proud of this piece for so many reasons Allison! It represents the culmination of many years of hard work... study in the field... in the studio and on my own terms... my own PHd of sorts!
I feel that it truly reflects my deeply held love and respect for Algonquin Park... and all places wild... and that it does capture the essence of the Park's magnificence ... across every season!
Hope to talk to "You" soon and take you to the exhibition... for a guided tour and firsthand look!
Hope all is well in your work and writing. I'll call when I get back from the Bark Lake Paint Out on Sunday evening!
Thanks so much for your continued love and support!
Love ALWAYS!
Dad
XXXXXOOOOOXXXXX
Great job Bruce...and under a bit of pressure as well!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the show buddy!
Jeffrey
Thanks for the visit and the compliment Jeffrey! That means a lot coming from an ardent fellow outdoor painter!
ReplyDeletePressure is a necessary ingredient in making art for "Me".... keeps me motivated and focussed. Painting in the outdoors has helped me deal with pressure... you work in conjunction with the sun...HAHA!!
The show will go where it goes Jeffrey... as they always do. The work has been delivered and hung... my job is done! The show has a good feel.... the rest is in somebody else's hands now....
Good Painting!
Warmest regards,
Bruce
Bruce, Friday evening I saw this GLORIOUS piece hanging at AyrSpace. It is fantastic. This is beautifully painted! I really love your transitions-they are so subtle. All around a super work!
ReplyDeleteHi there Ms Grimsby!... Thank "You" for the compliments!
ReplyDeleteThe transition aspect of the work was the hardest part to pull off and was the only aspect of the project that really worried me before starting. Failure to achieve a subtle transition would simply create four very large pieces that might not necessarily work side by side.
I am proud of the outcome... and was very happy to have it highlight my show at Kim's wonderful gallery. I hope that it created some extra "music" at the Snowed In Music Night event on Friday...like your Winter Cheer floral did for "Me"! Brilliant was that one! I'll post the reasons for my absence on my next post!
Thanks for checkin' in Kim!
Good Painting!
Warmest regards,
Bruce
