Thank you for your supportive and uplifting comments regarding this post!

You are correct about my having to force myself to get outdoors in such frigid weather as we experience every January and February here in this part (and most others) in Canada. The weather can be very intimidating... discouraging.,.. and even dangerous for the foolhardy.

This year has been even more severe than most... with the wind chill reaching down and remaining at dangerous levels to take chances. At this point, one of my resolutions has been put on hold for the time being at least. It simply is punishing to be out there and therefore defeats my underlying enjoyment of being "out there." I will bide my time and am trying to get to the easel... as we speak to get the feel of the brush again and will be ready!

I also have several other winter works projects... creating smaller, portable and less expensive offerings that have to get underway so that I can be ready for our May opening. These "bread n' butter" items help maintain sales and "keep the wolf away from the door." HA HA!

Good luck with your own winter works projects Caroline.

Good Painting!
Warmest regards,
BruceBruce Shermanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13111784187521969252noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3013724465609653382.post-5557662347254734402014-01-29T07:53:36.048-05:002014-01-29T07:53:36.048-05:00Hi Bruce I have enjoyed this post very much, a rea...Hi Bruce I have enjoyed this post very much, a real creative project with the use of the cabinet door. You have captured the raw beauty of the chilly white winter wonderland in your stunning painting. Well done! I remember from previous start of the year posts that you found it difficult to paint indoors so much as the weather was stopping you from painting outside. I think you started some projects just to get you painting. You have a determined spirit thank you for sharing your journey with us Bruce.Caroline Simmillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09598525698486576546noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3013724465609653382.post-52817397185792369322014-01-23T05:41:31.257-05:002014-01-23T05:41:31.257-05:00Good morning Keith!... Your site and watercolours ...Good morning Keith!... Your site and watercolours never fail to inspire me with their warmth and unique colour. Your added historical information provide me further interest to return to your site.

Framing has become a real issue for many people in these tough economic times. It was that very fact which drove me to leave painting in water colour myself. By the time I paid my framer for a solo show consisting of frames of twenty to thirty paintings all framed in archival materials... non glare glass and frames and the commission to the galleries... there was negligible profitresulting from a lot of hard work. A really discouraging situation, so I returned to oils.

Glad that you enjoyed the painting and post. Good luck with finding a positive solution for your framing needs!

Good Painting!
Warmest regards,
BruceBruce Shermanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13111784187521969252noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3013724465609653382.post-78586136917301236842014-01-23T05:06:43.671-05:002014-01-23T05:06:43.671-05:00Good Morning Bruce, thanks for the mention and I&#...Good Morning Bruce, thanks for the mention and I'm glad I was able to contribute a little bit to the inspiration for this. The finished piece looks wonderful and the black surround sets it off nicely. It was an inspired idea to use the panels, and even better that Deb can make use of them too. I wish I could find a similar way to reduce framing costs for watercolours!

All the best,
KeithKeith Tilleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04114006831583939493noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3013724465609653382.post-41903283169857115352014-01-21T16:52:31.427-05:002014-01-21T16:52:31.427-05:00HI there Suz!... The canvas gets very sloppy when it is taken from the warmth of the car into the frigid outdoor environment.

I love painting outdoors because the impact of the presence of the natural landscape inspires and excites me. Ther freshness forces me top focus and work quickly as well... usually providing a painterly... loose result. Just my preference!

Good Painting!
Warmest regards,
BruceBruce Shermanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13111784187521969252noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3013724465609653382.post-81404291147522270452014-01-19T18:48:20.842-05:002014-01-19T18:48:20.842-05:00Very clever idea to use cupboard doors, the surfac...Very clever idea to use cupboard doors, the surface being smooth and stable with a built in frame. I use mdf boards cut for me at the hardware store, these I gesso with a smooth sponge roller which makes a great painting surface and the boards take up less room to store than canvases, not to mention the money saved.
You must be a hardy fella to paint outdoors in the freezing cold twice a week no less! I'm sure it keeps ones paintings loose and painterly to paint plein aire in those conditions. Good for you!
Happy Painting!
Diana Marshallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12193006545310900940noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3013724465609653382.post-81652658884114022014-01-19T09:14:32.682-05:002014-01-19T09:14:32.682-05:00HI there Sherry!... I think am as well, though of course, my thoughts go in different directions. Still, I love your approach and I love these cabinet doors. Reminds me of a goal to paint the 3 square inserts in my front door. I think I will take that on in the spring!Autumn Leaveshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04010044052621228719noreply@blogger.com
