What's more... it has a "face"!

".... When will they ever learn?..."

We humans seem to have wonderful short term memory and bad long term memory in the early halves of our lifespan... and forgetting comes easily to us.

Strange that it works in reverse for the last half. Everything in the deep past is what we remember and dwell upon.

It is only then that "We" realize that..."War solves nothing"!

Thank "You" for taking the time to add your views to the post Karen. Too actually know someone who has been wounded or killed in Afghanistan brings is home so much more than just reading statistics in the paper or seeing a photo on the news. My cousin's son was wounded over there two years ago - lost use of his eye - was months recovering. Indeed,
"when will they ever learn?" "on the front lines"!

What "They" are indeed fighting for is a belief in Freedom as they have experienced it in their own countries and young lives. Their common courage and conviction to carry it and help put it in place in those parts of the world where it may be absent... is the most admirable facet of their sacrifice that "I" honour with the creation of this small votive.

May their ultimate sacrifice on behalf of their beliefs... and "Us"... bear fruit on the soil where their precious blood was spilled.

We must all... each of "Us" shoulder their missions further... each in our own small way in our daily lives!

Thanks for your very poignant view.... It matters not so much what we believe (politics notwithstanding) as it does that these men and women believe in what they do and have the courage to stand up for those beliefs. I think most of us do just this in our own ways, Bruce. Those that do it on the front lines have the courage of their convictions and I am eternally grateful for each and every one of them. I salute you for your love these men and women as well. This is a beautiful piece, truly.Autumn Leaveshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04010044052621228719noreply@blogger.com
